Bayshore Estates, acting on behalf of Berkeley Estate Asset Management, is expected to get planning approval next week for the transformation of a five-storey Barbican office block at 48 Chiswell Street, EC1.
The proposals, submitted to Islington Council in December last year, encompass the extension, recladding and refurbishment of the existing 190,930 sq ft building. Designed by Make Architects, the revamped offices would provide 209,670 sq ft of workspace.
The developer plans to add two storeys to the existing building to provide affordable workspace for local businesses. Berkeley also plans to replace the existing car parking spaces with cycle storage and changing facilities.
The ground floor will be reactivated to provide reception areas alongside retail space.
Gerald Eve is advising on planning.
