Berkeley ‘kick starts’ Hackney regeneration scheme

Berkeley Homes, Hackney Council and Hackney Homes have signed a development agreement to deliver the first homes as part of the Woodberry Down regeneration.

The £220m agreement will see Berkeley deliver 1,400 homes along with community facilities on the first four ‘Kick Start’ phases of the north London estate’s regeneration.

This initial investment forms the foundation of a £1bn scheme to regenerate the entire estate, once the largest in Europe, over the next 15 years.

A masterplan for the entire scheme is in the final stages of preparation.

It is hoped an application for outline planning will be made this year, with work beginning on site next year.

Berkeley Group’s managing director Tony Pidgley said: “Regeneration has driven the economic and community renaissance of many parts of London, and as the benefits spread across the city, Berkeley is proud to be working in partnership with Hackney Council and Hackney Homes.”
