Berkeley’s chairman gets £23m payout

Tony Pidgley, the founder and chairman of Berkeley Homes, was paid just over £23m in cash and shares last year, part of a bonus payment of some £42m shared by the company’s top five executives.

A similar amount is likely for the coming year, and by 2021 the executives’ share bonuses could be worth some £500m in total.

The company reported a sharp increase in annual profit. Its share price has risen 15% this year.
