Berlin airport to start in 2003, says IVG boss

The construction of Berlin’s new airport may start in 2003 if cartel authorities in Brussels give the scheme the green light, said boss John von Freyend.

The airport should be ready by 2007. The details of the inter-consortium agreement will not be revealed until 2003, however, because consortiums will not hand over their designs until they are sure they will be participating in the project.

IVG can show off a positive balance sheet. Turnover increased to €289m (DM565m) during the first nine months of 2000, against €266m (DM520m) in the same period in 1999. Net income is forecast at €61m (DM119m) against €54m (DM106m) in 1999.
