Southwark council has approved the masterplan for the final phase of the Bermondsey Spa regeneration in south London.
The masterplan, drawn up by Glen Howells Architects and the council, sets out details of a mixed-use development on the remaining 9 acres of the 20-acre scheme.
The plans include 456,000 sq ft of residential comprising around 610 residential units 35% of which will be affordable, along with 120,000 sq ft of community and business, health, retail and leisure space.
Work will begin on site once outline planning permission has been attained.
The entire 20-acre Bermondsey Spa regeneration area includes 13 sites bordered by Grange Road, The Grange, Spa Road and Neckinger.
When completed it will provide:
- Around 2000 new homes, over 35% of which will be affordable
- 16 GP surgery places
- A dental practice
- New youth and play facilities
- 6.5 acres of re-landscaped open space
- New council offices and a one stop shop
- New local shops including a food retail store.
