Elliott Bernerd has denied rumours that he has received approaches to buy Chelsfield.
Reports this week have claimed that George Soros and Lend Lease are running the rule over the company, whose assets include the White City and Merry Hill retail developments.
“Something is going on,” said one property analyst. Another commented: “I’ve heard that Bernerd wants out and that Chelsfield is in play at 350p a share.”
Bernerd said: “We are a public company, and if someone approaches us with a bid it is my duty to inform the shareholders. We get approaches from time to time but we are not in discussions with anyone now.”
Chelsfield, currently trading at 255p, has recovered from a 240p low just before Christmas. Its market cap stands at £823m.
