Better weather was behind a marked improvement in online and shop sales at Next in June and July, chief executive Simon Wolfson said.
Although sales at high-street stores fell 7.4% in the three months ended 29 July, that was less than the first quarter’s 8.1% fall. Sales at the company’s online Directory business rose 11.4%.
Wolfson said he was marginally less pessimistic than three months earlier, but that the company was being very cautious about the rest of the year.
