Bicester Heritage Hotel cleared for take off
A 344-bedroom hotel at Bicester Heritage, a former 1920s RAF base, has gained planning approval.
Cherwell District Council has unanimously greenlit proposals for the development at the 425-acre site, which houses the UK’s best-preserved Second World War RAF bomber station and currently showcases classic cars and planes.
The conservation-led resort will be built with materials inspired by the existing pre-war RAF buildings and mimic the shapes of aircraft hangers from the pre-war era.

The scheme will also feature a four-storey atrium, conference facilities, restaurant and bar, courtyard, gym, swimming pool and spa.
Development is expected to begin in late summer 2019. It expects to bring in around 250,000 visitors per annum and create 180 full-time jobs.
The hotel will also act as a gateway to the Cotswolds. Bicester Heritage said this has been validated by CBRE’s hotels team for this purpose.
Dan Geoghegan, managing director of Bicester Heritage, said: “The unanimous approval by the planning authority demonstrates the strength of local government support for our vision. It also reflects the high esteem in which Bicester Heritage is held alongside its national importance to the automotive sector.
“The hotel will be at the vanguard of a new lifestyle-driven masterplan to provide a motoring experience worthy of the modern era.”
