Bidders queue for von Essen hotels

The von Essen Hotels portfolio has attracted a large number of offers after the first-round bidding deadline expired last week, selling agents Christie + Co said today.

“We have received a large number of bids on a portfolio, sub-group and individual asset basis,” confirmed Christie + Co’s international managing director, Chris Day.

“Many of these offers meet or exceed the guide prices and we’re currently working with the administrators to review all the bids we have received before proceeding to the next round of the process.”

As revealed by Estates Gazette, administrators from Ernst & Young appointed Christie + Co to market the collection of 27 country house hotels at the beginning of June.

The portfolio includes a number of historic hotels, such as Cliveden in Berkshire, Lower Slaughter Manor in Gloucestershire and the Royal Crescent in Bath, as well as a hotel development, Thorn Island Battery Fort, which occupies an island off the Pembrokeshire coast.
