Bidwells tops Cambridge agents league

Bidwells has topped the Estates Gazette Cambridge office agents league table.

The agent secured nearly half of all deals done in the 12 months to the end of June this year, signing tenants for 297,000 sq ft of space and doubling market share over its nearest competitor, Savills.

But overall the chronic supply shortage in the city saw deals plummet with disposals slipping 7% and the average deal size down a fifth, according to Estates Gazette Office Research.

Bidwells’ race to the top spot was helped by its involvement in two of the biggest deals including the 44, 000 sq ft prelet to Mott MacDonald at CB1.

Other winners include Carter Jonas, which continued its climb up the table following its merge with Jeffersons in 2011. Local agent Barker Storey Matthews made the biggest gains this year, more than doubling the amount of space transacted as it made a move to concentrate on the larger end of the market.

Savills however, slipped furthest year-on-year with space transacted down to almost half.

Rob Sadler, Savills’ director of commercial in the eastern region said it expected to end the year on a par with 2012. Since the end of June it has signed two prelets of 60,000 sqft at Chesterford and a 50,000 sq ft on Cambridge Science Park. “Those two deals alone would have nearly doubled take-up,” he added.
