Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger and Lacoste are among a growing list of retailers that have agreed to take new stores at the £9bn redevelopment of London’s Battersea Power Station.
The Kooples, Ray-Ban, L’Occitane, Gant, The Body Shop, Aēsop, Mango, Reiss, Le Labo and Japanese patisserie Kova have also signed up to scheme. The deals mean that some 70% of the shop spaces at Battersea, which will be housed in the power station’s two old turbine halls, have now been let. They are scheduled to open next year.
Sam Cotton, head of leasing at Battersea Power Station Development Company, said: “We are undoubtedly experiencing the most exciting year yet in the transformation of Battersea Power Station. We recently welcomed our first residents into their homes in the Grade II* listed icon, Battersea Power Station’s Zone 1 Underground station opened last week and our retailer and office occupiers will begin fitting out their spaces in the coming months ahead of the power station opening its doors to the public next year.
“Battersea Power Station is well on its way to becoming one of the most prominent new neighbourhoods in the world and to have this endorsed by such an impressive collection of British and international brands is testament to the continued appeal of this unique project.”
César de Vicente Sandoval, global retail director at Mango, said the fashion chain was proud to be part of the regeneration of the power station.
“With the redevelopment of the area comes a new energy and excitement for both consumers and brands,” he said. “As a brand, it is important for us to be a part of a community as it is core to our Mediterranean values. As Battersea Power Station and the surrounding area becomes a new hub for technology and leisure, we are excited to contribute to a new era of retail experience.”
The redevelopment of the 42-acre site will eventually house some 100 shops, restaurants and cafés, a 2,000-capacity events venue and more than 4,200 homes.
