Birmingham council will decide tomorrow on whether or not to grant planning permission for Land Securities’ Martineau Galleries shopping centre scheme.
The council’s planning committee meets on Thursday morning to discuss LandSec’s revised scheme after deferring a decision on whether to give it the go-ahead last month. Councillors were not convinced that the amount of floorspace planned could fit into the proposed city-centre site without creating access problems. They also voiced concerns about the scheme’s style.
Planners are recommending that councillors grant permission. In response to councillors’ concerns, Landsec has widened pedestrian routes within the development’s boundaries and reduced the size of the scheme’s upper floors.
A decision is expected by mid-afternoon tomorrow
