Birmingham council to sell off three carparks

Birmingham City Council is selling off three carparks in SDL Auctions Bigwood final auction of the year.

Two of the car parks, both in Handsworth, offer potential for alternative uses, subject to planning, and are guided at £35,000 and £15,000. The third, in Sparkhill, Birmingham, will be sold long leasehold with a restriction to use as a car park and is guided at £100,000.

The sale, offering 170 lots, will be SDL’s biggest Midlands auction to date. Guide prices range from nil reserve to in excess of £850,000.

Gurpreet Bassi, head of residential auctions at SDL Auctions Bigwood, said one property already drawing strong interest is a three-bedroom semi-detached house in Kings Norton, Birmingham, which is fire damaged and has a guide price in excess of £5,000.

The catalogue also includes a studio flat in East Ham, E6. Guided at £80,000-plus, it currently produces rent of £9,000 per annum. A four-bedroom detached property called New Pilgrims Cottage in Basford, Stoke-on-Trent, previously used as a care home, is offered with a guide price in excess of £137,000.

The auction will take place at Villa Park on Thursday, 14 December. There are also a total of 28 ground rents in the auction.

A sweet shop in Bacup, Lancashire, producing £3,430 per annum and guided at £35,000-plus is among 50 lots on offer in SDL Auctions North West sale on 12 December. The tenant has recently signed a six-month lease on the two-storey end-of-terrace property.

Other income-producing lots include a barber shop with two flats in Cadishead, Manchester. The mixed-use investment produces £9,600 per annum from the shop and residential accommodation above, and is guided at £98,000-plus. Residential space to the rear is currently vacant, but has previously been let at around £300pcm.

This is SDL’s third Manchester auction and its largest since launching in the region in April this year, with 50 lots on offer. It will take place at the AJ Bell Stadium on Tuesday, 12 December.

It will also include three seaside flats in Morecambe, each producing income of around £4,500 per annum and guided at prices ranging from £18,000 to £23,000-plus.
