Birmingham council unveils Jewellery Quarter designs

 


Birmingham City Council has unveiled designs for a new public square at the heart of the city’s historic Jewellery Quarter.



Following public consultation, architect Capita Lovejoy’s ‘Golden Square’ concept was chosen as the favourite design for the new £1.5m square.

The new square is subdivided into three key spaces – the plaza, the orchard and the promenade.  


 


Capita beat rival shortlisted firms including: Barton Willmore, ARUP and FIRA Landscape.



Andy Williams, managing director of Capita Lovejoy, said: “This project is critical for the community and identity of the Jewellery Quarter and will be a significant step forward in delivering the aspirations of Birmingham’s Big City Plan.”



A planning application submission will be made later this year.
