Birmingham Council is releasing two parcels of land for separate hotel developments at the National Exhibition Centre.
The Council is seeking offers for a 2.39ha (5.9 acre) site alongside the Pendingo Lake opposite the Metropole Hotel at the exhibition centre. The authority is looking for an operator to take a four-star hotel on a125-year ground lease in exchange for either a premium or rent linked to turnover.
At Northway on the outer fringe of the NEC campus, the Birmingham Council is releasing a 2.3ha (5.6 acre) site earmarked for a 150-bed budget, two-star hotel. The council is offering a 125-year ground lease in exchange for a premium.
Birmingham Property Services assistant director, Peter Jones said: “We’re aware that the hotel market is hot. We want the budget hotel sorted in two months but I think it will take around six months to tie up the deal on the four-star.”
News of potential hotel development at NEC follows yesterday’s decision by Birmingham Council to give consent for a £60m, 30,000 sq m (322,928 sq ft) expansion at the centre.
