Birmingham attracted 73 investment projects from outside the UK last year, making it the second most popular destination for foreign investment behind London, according to data from UK Trade and Investment.
Some 40% of the projects were within the manufacturing sector, and of that two-thirds were automotive-related.
The Greater Manchester region attracted 67 projects.
