Birmingham NEC wins council casino bet

Birmingham council is backing the NEC’s plans for a 300,000 sq ft MGM Mirage casino as its choice for the country’s first regional super-casino. The council, which owns 50% of the NEC, chose the scheme ahead of Birmingham City Football Club’s plans to anchor its new £120m stadium with a super-casino. MGM Mirage was chosen to develop the NEC casino last December. Local authorities have until 31 March to submit their choices for regional super-casinos to the government’s Casino Advisory Panel.
