Birmingham nets £2m as Bond Wolfe auction raises £25.5m

Eight out of nine lots put up for sale by Birmingham City Council sold at Bond Wolfe’s most recent auction raising some £2m for the local authority.

At total of 185 lots were offered at the sale, with 163 selling for a total of £25.5m.

The Birmingham council lots included land and premises at 86 Hospital Street and Buckingham Street (pictured), which sold for £610,000, having been offered with a guide price of £125,000.

An irregularly-shaped plot of land fronting Great Barr Street also sold well, achieving £402,000 from a guide price of £250,000.

The local authority had instructed the auctioneer to sell a total of 11 properties, but two were withdrawn prior to the sale.

Birmingham council has been selling off property through auction since the beginning of the year.
In January, it instructed Bond Wolfe to sell 29 disused assets, including former nurseries and a children’s centre and in February, it added seven new lots to the auctions roster.

So far the sales have raised more than £6m for the effectively bankrupt council.

Bond Wolfe’s next auction takes place on 11 July.
