Birmingham office set for revamp

LaSalle, New Street Birmingham officeLaSalle Investment Management has won planning consent for a £13m redevelopment of the former Charters building on New Street, Birmingham.

The real estate investment manager’s plans for the 125,110 sq ft building will involve moving the office entrance onto Stephenson Street, directly opposite New Street Station and the Grand Central shopping centre.

The completed scheme will provide floorplates of up to 13,000 sq ft.

The building comprises office space in the basement, ground, lower ground and mezzanine as well as on eight upper floor, with ground floor retail units let to Boots, Superdrug and Bella Pasta.

Edd Fitch, national director at LIM, said: The works being undertaken will completely reposition this property in the Birmingham office market and will appeal to many occupiers who want to be located opposite the recently redeveloped New Street Station.” 

Work is due to start on site in September 2016 and will last for around 12 months.

CBRE and JLL have been appointed letting agents on the scheme.
