Birmingham submits conservatoire plans

Birmingham-Conservatoire-

Birmingham city council has submitted plans for a six-storey, 107,600 sq ft conservatoire which will provide facilities for Birmingham University’s music and arts students.

The scheme will be located on the Birmingham University campus and will be the first new-build conservatoire since 1987.

The council aims to complete the scheme by 2017. It will house five performance venues, including a concert hall with around 450 seats and a full orchestra, plus a 150-seat recital hall and 70 music practice rooms.

Professor Cliff Allan, vice-chancellor of Birmingham University, said: “This new building, designed by leading architect Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, provides us with a glorious opportunity to build on our proud history and continue to develop world-class music facilities for future generations.”
