Pebble Mill Investments, a wholly owned subsidiary of Calthorpe Estates, has submitted an outline planning application to build a new hospital, clinic and research centre on the former Pebble Mill site in Edgbaston, Birmingham.
The new five-storey, 54,000 sq ft facility, would be located in the Edgbaston Medical Quarter on the site of the former BBC studios.
The plans replace proposals approved in 2014 for a 53,800 sq ft healthcare facility − the final part of the jigsaw in the £200m transformation of the Pebble Mill site − for which planning consent has now lapsed.
David Lock Associates has prepared a design and access statement to support the proposals.
Bordered by the main Bristol Road and Pershore Road, the landmark Pebble Mill project has seen the former headquarters for the BBC in the Midlands transformed into a hub of medical and life sciences excellence and now includes a dental hospital, school of dentistry, a Bupa care home and a Circle Health private hospital.
The site has been vacant since 2003, when the former BBC studios were demolished.
