BIS department set to cut jobs and offices

Some 200 jobs are set to go at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills as civil servants there sign up for a voluntary exit scheme launched a few weeks ago.

Business secretary Sajid Javid has also drawn up plans to reduce the number of offices and cut the number of partnership organisations or quangos.

An internal document indicates the number of offices could fall to just seven or eight, from around 80, as sites are consolidated.
