Bishop’s Stortford set for £70m town centre makeover

Mantle Estates and Scowcroft Goddard have submitted joint proposals for a £70m retail-led redevelopment scheme in the centre of Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire.

The joint owners of the Jackson Square shopping centre and the adjacent Jackson Wharf plan a mixed-use development on 7.47 acres (3.02ha).

Proposals comprise the extension of the 100,194 sq ft (9,308 sq m) Jackson Square shopping centre with a 65,000 sq ft (6,039 sq m) anchor foodstore and 30,000 sq ft (2,787 sq m) of retail spread across12 shops.

The plans also include housing and a pedestrianised area alongside the town’s riverbank incorporating further shops and restaurants.

Guy Baker, director of Mantle Estates, said: “This part of Bishops Stortford has been in need of investment and development for years. These proposals will deliver a vibrant and enhanced town centre.”
