BL and Blackstone to expand retail at Broadgate

British Land and Blackstone are preparing to submit a planning application to the City of London Corporation which could increase the amount of retail space at Broadgate Circle, EC2.

Pre-application discussions have been held with the City and English Heritage ahead of a full submission which is expected soon.

The move comes just months after BL won its fight to knock down part of the estate to make way for UBS’s new 700,000 sq ft European Headquarters which are now under construction.

City planning officer Peter Rees said: “There have been initial discussions with British Land and Arup on modifications to Broadgate Circle and English Heritage officers have been involved in the discussion process. Nothing which is being proposed detracts from the quality of the original design.”

BL said: “British Land is currently preparing a planning application with Arup Associates which will preserve and enhance the public amenity and structure at Broadgate Circle. We look forward to sharing our plans in due course.”
