Black Pearl plans Blackfriars towers

Pint-of-milk-test-banner18-blackfriars-570pxBlack Pearl has unveiled plans for a major mixed-use development scheme at 18 Blackfriars Road, SE1,

A 52-storey residential tower, providing 227 homes to be sold on the open market, is planned. If approved, the Wilkinson Eyre-designed scheme will be the second-tallest building in Southwark, behind the Shard, SE1. Berkeley Group’s 50-storey One Blackfriars tower, to the north, will be 15 metres shorter.

Also proposed is a 32-storey, 269,000 sq ft office tower, a 548-bedroom hotel, 64 affordable homes and 32,300 sq ft of shops.

The plans will supersede a consent granted in 2008 for a 42-storey residential/office scheme. That consent provided 286 homes, 119 of them affordable.

Black Pearl is a subsidiary of Malaysian property development company IGB Corporation Berhad.

It intends to submit a planning application before the end of the year.

DP9 is advising Black Pearl on planning.
