The funding, from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, will go towards the £11m cost of the Tower Festival Headland scheme, which includes a performance space with capacity for 20,000 spectators.
Sir Howard Bernstein, newly appointed chairman of urban regeneration company ReBlackpool, said: “We are pleased to have been granted this funding by the DCMS.
“We are determined that this first step will lead to further investment by both private and public sectors.”
