Blackstone’s Pike swims into new role

Chad Pike, Blackstone’s former man in Europe, has launched a new investment management business to target opportunities created by the current turmoil in the real estate market.

A trademark registration for his new firm, Makarora Management, was filed in the US last month.

Pike played a key role in the growth of Blackstone’s real estate business. He was co-head of its real estate group before helping to set up Blackstone’s tactical opportunities business in 2012.

Known for his keen eye for a bargain, he led high-profile deals including the group’s 2009 purchase of half of British Land’s Broadgate complex in the City for £1bn. He spent 25 years with Blackstone before leaving in 2020.

Makarora’s initial focus is expected to be on opportunities in the US. Pike has already assembled a core team with more hires to follow.
