Blair admits ‘huge problems’ in transport

Prime minister Tony Blair has admitted there are “huge problems” in the transport network.

He was commenting in the aftermath of last Fridays Potters Bar rail disaster in an interview with Jeremy Paxman on BBC Televisions Newsnight.

He said the government had not lived up to voters expectations on transport. He said the railways would take a lot more time and money to improve. Blair praised transport secretary Stephen Byers for making the right decisions to reduce the managerial “fragmentation” of Railtrack.
