Blair schools programme hands windfall to Foster

The architect Lord Foster has emerged as one of the main beneficiaries of Tony Blair’s troubled city academies programme, landing contracts worth a total of £290m.

Foster has already built five academies and has a further four planned.

The nine schools are costing an average of £32.2m, compared with £17m for a normal comprehensive school.
