B&M eyes Homebase stores

Discount chain B&M is mounting a multi-million pound bid to take on dozens of the 80 Homebase DIY stores earmarked for closure.

The chain, chaired by former Tesco chief executive Sir Terry Leahy, has been expanding rapidly and is reported to be in talks with Home Retail Group about the stores, which are due to close over the next three years.

Other retails are also thought to be in talks with HRG about taking on some sites.
