BMW hopes to build a new production facility within Rover’s Longbridge, Birmingham site.
It would be part of a £1bn-plus project which would also see surplus land sold.
The Financial Times claims that Longbridge remains the preferred site to produce a new family of cars. BMW is expected to confirm tonight at the Geneva motor show that the company will proceed with a plan to replace Rover’s 200 and 400 models. However it will not be able to confirm they will be built at Longbridge until the government responds to its application for £150-£200m aid.
