Bookworm buy in Birmingham

A historic Grade-II listed library will be among 97 lots offered at the upcoming CP Bigwood auction.

Bloomsbury Library in Nechells, Birmingham will be sold with a guide price of £100,000 on behalf of Birmingham city council. It has scope for a residential or office redevelopment, subject to planning.

The 5,482 sq ft gothic redbrick library, which dates back to 1892, is the only original Victorian building remaining on Bloomsbury Street.

The council closed the library in October 2013. The auction will take place at Aston Villa Football Club, Birmingham, on 23 October.

Other assets for sale in the city include the former Red Lion pub in Handsworth, which has a guide price of £195,000 to £245,000.
