Boots go out-of-town to Merry Hill

Boots have announced the location of the first of their new out-of-town stores of which they hope to open 40 over the next few years.

Richardson Developments’ massive Merry Hill Centre in the Dudley Enterprise Zone will be the site for the first of the new 30,000-sq ft outlets.

A spokesman for Boots commented: “We believe Merry Hill is the ideal situation for our first store. It has become the prime retail park in the West Midlands with, by the end of the year, well over 500,000 sq ft of space trading. The retail line-up offers one of the most densely breadth of choice, second to none.”

The company were less forthcoming about the nature of the store, saying only that it “would not be like Boots the Chemist”.

The most likely location for the next of the new stores is Cricklewood in London, where Boots have just gained consent for a similarly sized outlet, on a site next to Wickes’ DIY store.
