Walgreens Boots Alliance is considering selling the Boots chain.
A sale could value the UK pharmacy chain at anywhere between £5bn and £10bn.
Boots has a network of 2,200 shops and is one of the largest retail chains in the UK.
Walgreens has refused to “comment on market speculation”, as its share price rose 4.3% on the news – although it did say that its priority was a “more pointed focus on North America and on healthcare”.
