Boots will close 300 high street stores over the next year as it seeks to cut costs.
The company will reduce its estate from 2,200 to about 1,900 stores amid speculation that its parent, Walgreens Boots Alliance, could put the business up for sale.
A further 150 Walgreens stores will be closed in the US.
The retailer is expected to close shops “in close proximity” to others. Most of the sites at risk are said to be within three miles of another.
Boots has already closed more than 200 stores since 2019.
