Border to Coast real estate boss moves to AEW

The former head of real estate for the £30bn pensions pool Border to Coast has moved to asset manager AEW.

Tim Sankey will lead AEW’s dedicated separate accounts team in London, focusing on building investment portfolios across the UK and Europe.

His move comes just over a year after joining Border to Coast, where he was tasked with growing a dedicated real estate team to manage two property funds with a potential size of £5bn.

Prior to this, he worked at Aberdeen Standard Investments for almost 17 years, managing a range of funds and separate accounts for both UK and international investors.

Rob Wilkinson, chief executive at AEW, said: “With his extensive experience in fund, investment and asset management, Tim will play a key role in advising and delivering results for our clients, as well as continuing to grow this business.”

Border to Coast is recruiting a replacement head of real estate. The pension pool said it will continue with the funds launches, led by portfolio manager Paul Campbell. The global fund is expected to launch by the end of 2022, with the UK fund to follow in 2023.
