Boris rejects ‘pitchfork’ wavers

MIPIM UK: Using a “pitchfork to stop foreign investment” in London house building was dismissed by Boris Johnson at MIPIM UK this morning.

The mayor of London said in his keynote speech that he wanted to dispose of the myth that overseas money in London is contributing to a housing supply crisis.

He said there was, in part, a “pitchfork to stop foreign investment and I think that’s rubbish”.

He added that the real solution “is obvious – to build more homes”.

Johnson’s statement came as he announced his belief that 500,000 homes could be delivered in London over the next 10 years. Of these, some 320,000 could be built across 38 brownfield opportunity areas.

A number are expected to be delivered using international capital.

“I don’t want to expel any oligarchs from planet zog. London thrives on being an international city,” said Johnson.
