Bovis Homes sees costs rise as skills shortage continues

Bovis Homes is blaming the ongoing skills shortage for an increase in build costs, with the company’s chief executive saying the lack of suitably skilled workers was proving a challenge both for it and the sector as a whole.

David Ritchie said the shortage extended across all the broad range of construction skills. The company employs around 4,000 people on its sites in the UK.

The comments came as Bovis reported a 9% increase in earnings in H1, benefiting from a 10% rise to £264,200 in the average sales price for a home. Sales increased by 7%.
