BPF opens board applications in diversity push

The British Property Federation has invited applications from across its membership to join its board for the first time, in a push for greater diversity.

An invitation was issued to the BPF’s members today. The BPF is aiming to appoint a new board member by the end of the year.

The BPF said it “aims to identify individuals who have the right skills and experience to contribute effectively to the board’s work”.

“Such individuals will form a pool of candidates from which future BPF board appointments may be made,” it said.

In addition to new junior vice president Guy Grainger, EMEA chief executive at JLL, the organisation also recently appointed the following people to its board:

  • Harvin Chohan, apprentice surveyor at CBRE and chair of BPF Futures
  • Madeleine McDougall, managing director, head of real estate and housing at Lloyds Bank,
  • Jonathan Murphy, chief executive of Assura and chair of the BPF’s healthcare committee.

The board comprises six people elected by the membership at the AGM each year in July, normally for terms of three years. These sit alongside the BPF’s presidential team, chief executive and treasurer. It meets four times a year.

Melanie Leech, chief executive of the BPF, said: “As the voice of the real estate industry we have committed to play our part in promoting a culture of equality and inclusion within our industry. This means ensuring that our governance aligns with our values, and we now have a more diverse board than at any time in the BPF’s history.

“However, we recognise we can go further. That is why we are today inviting expressions of interest from BPF members who would like to join the BPF board.”
