Brace of retail deals for Martineau Place

Martineau-Place-THUMB.jpegCushman & Wakefield has completed two major lettings at Martineau Place in Birmingham city centre.

Poundland has taken a 10-year lease on a 30,000 sq ft unit on Corporation Street, while Burger King has agreed a 20-year lease on what will be its flagship store in Birmingham city centre. The Burger King unit extends to 8,000 sq ft.

Martineau Place shopping centre fronts the traditional retail pitch of Corporation Street.

Ed Purcell, of letting agent Cushman & Wakefield, said: “We have let two large corner properties within Birmingham city centre to national retailers at high rents and on long leases. This shows the ever-increasing strength and attractiveness of the retail market to retailers within the city centre.”

Poundland opened its first store at the Octagon Centre, Burton, in 1990 and recently announced its turnover had topped £1bn for the first time. Burger King was founded in 1954 and this new store is its first in Birmingham city centre.

Existing tenants at Martineau Place include Boots, Argos, Sainsbury’s and Caffé Nero.
