Brent lists demands for MDC

A Crossrail link at Wembley central would sway Brent council to back the formation of a Mayoral Development Corporation for Old Oak in west London.

The council has agreed to accept an MDC in principle, subject to a series of requests including support for securing the Crossrail link and a pledge that new housing will not be marketed overseas.

Brent’s demands are in response to a Greater London Authority consultation on a proposed MDC.

The GLA and mayor of London Boris Johnson want to place the 195-acre Old Oak Common project, which proposes 24,000 homes, a business district and a 40,000-seat stadium for Queens Park Rangers Football Club under the control of an MDC, enabling the mayor to use the special planning powers that ensured the London 2012 Olympics delivered a legacy of regeneration.

Muhammed Butt, leader of Brent council, said: “Our main priority is to secure the best deal for our residents an ensure that the proposed regeneration will not have an adverse impact on the local community.”
