Brick by Brick, the development company set up by Croydon Council, has secured planning permission for a 25-storey, mixed-use development that will create 128 new homes above flexible office, retail and leisure space in the town centre.
The company was set up in 2016 and by next year it will have delivered some 1,000 homes.
It expects to complete around 500 homes per annum thereafter.
Fixing London’s housing crisis, brick by brick
The scheme, which was approved last night, will replace a council-owned car park.
Half of the new homes will be designated as affordable and made available through affordable rent or shared ownership. More than 60 homes will be available via private sale or rent.
A communal roof garden will be situated on the 22nd floor.
Brick by Brick chief executive Colm Lacey said: “This is a really exciting development for Brick by Brick and Croydon that will deliver a large number of new mixed-tenure homes and bring new life to a central location.
“We have worked closely with local residents and stakeholders to develop a scheme that makes best use of the site and responds well to its surroundings.
“This is a key project in realising our aim of providing well-designed and affordable accommodation for households of different sizes and incomes.”
Pitman Tozer Architects designed the scheme.
