Bridgepoint has bought Robinia Care Group, a chain of nursing homes for patients with learning disabilities.
Bridgepoint will inject £35m in return for a majority holding in Robinia and Bank of Scotland is lending another £15m to fund future acquisitions.
Robinia, based in Bath, has 51 homes in the Midlands and South of England.
