Forget the golden triangle, last year it was all about the golden miles of the M1 motorway. More than a quarter of the country’s largest industrial deals in 2014 were for assets on the M1, according to EGi’s Industrial Research.
In total, the motorway accounted for 10.6m sq ft of the 34m sq ft signed in the top 100 deals. On the other two sides of the golden triangle, the M6 registered 17 of the top deals and the M42 just one.
Nearly all of the 250 largest shed deals followed the UK’s main motorways, accounting for more than 54m sq ft transacted, with large clusters of deals along the M1, M42, M6 Toll and M62 corridors.
Some 84% of the biggest deals were outside London and the South East. The Midlands has been especially successful, with deals in Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and Staffordshire all topping the findings.
