Brindleyplace lures more tenants from rival locations

William M Mercer is moving its Birmingham headquarters to Argent’s Brindleyplace.

The human resource and benefits consultant is taking 2,090 sq m (22,500 sq ft) on the 5th and 6th floors at Four Brindleyplace.

Gareth Edwards, head of retirement practice at Mercer, said: “It was important to find a new home which helped attract and retain staff essential to our business. The building’s canal-side location and amenities made it a clear choice for us.”

Insurance group Scottish Equitable has also moved in to number four, paying £247 per sq m (£23 per sq ft) for a 495 sq m (5,306 sq ft) self-contained suite.

A source said Mercer’s rent was slightly less because of the size of the deal.

Scottish Equitable is moving from 1 Victoria Square – the city’s historic office core, while Mercer is moving from 3 Broadway at Five Ways.

A further 8,547 sq m (92,000 sq ft) will come on stream at Brindleyplace, where work is under way on Six Brindleyplace and completion is expected in February.

GVA Grimley and Richard Ellis from Brindleyplace, while DTZ Debenham Thorpe advised Mercer. Grenville Smith & Duncan acted for Scottish Equitable.
