More than 500 people crammed into the ballroom at Bristol’s Thistle Grand hotel last week for the Bristol Property Agents Association dinner – arguably the event of year for the city’s property industry.
Outgoing BPAA president Andrew Main of Savills announced that £9,000 had been raised during the year for his chosen charities – Wherever the Need and CLIC Sargent – setting the bar high for incoming president Jeremy Richards of Jones Lang LaSalle, who vowed to beat that figure. He also said he would continue to challenge mayor George Ferguson over the implementation of residents’ parking permits in the city centre, which has become the thorniest issue to hit the property market for several years.
Guest speaker former Ireland rugby player Fergus Slattery had the difficult task of keeping the well-lubricated audience entertained after dinner, but soon had everyone roaring with laughter with tales of the British and Irish Lions tour of New Zealand in 1971, most of which included alcohol and inventive ways of insulting the referee.
