Bristol Alliance, the joint venture between Land Securities and Hammerson developing the 1m sq ft Cabot Circus retail and leisure scheme in the city, has handed over the House of Fraser anchor store.

The £22m 170,000 sq ft building has been designed as an integral part of the new civic square within the scheme.

The four-storey department was designed by architect Stanton Williams and features bronze panels and etched glass by artists Susanna Heron.

Peter Horrix, House of Fraser director of store development, said: “The opening of Cabot Circus will completely transform Bristol’s city centre shopping offer and our new department store has been designed with that in mind.

“We have invested £22m in creating an unrivalled state-of-the-art department store experience for the region.”

Keith Stone, Bristol Alliance leasing director, added: “Other retailers are upping the quality of their store designs to ensure that the experience provided by Cabot Circus is unique. Leasing progress is well ahead of expectations and we have already exceeded letting 75% of floor space at the scheme.”

Cabot Circus will also include 250 apartments and more than 161,500 sq ft of office space.

Joint letting agents are DTZ and Lunson Mitchenall.
