Bristol Council approves £5m redevelopment of Clifton arcade

A Victorian shopping arcade in a Bristol suburb is set for a new lease of life following council approval of proposals for a £5m redevelopment.

Moorpoint, the property company which owns the listed building on King Street in Clifton, last week received full planning consent for its plans.

The 2,322.5 sq m (25,000 sq ft) new scheme will provide pub and restaurant facilities, a French brasserie, 20 shops and residential units.

Moorpoint is now looking for a development partner. Wadsworth Brewery has already agreed to operate the pub and restaurant.

John Boutwood, planning officer at Bristol City Council, said that if the scheme went ahead it would vastly improve the arcade, some of which he described as an “eyesore”.
