Bristol City Council plans to regenerate Hartcliffe, an area blighted by lack of jobs, high crime, poor amenities and inadequate public transport.
Phase one will see the main shopping area, Symes Avenue, redeveloped. The shops will be razed and replaced with a superstore. A petrol station will be added and a community building and library. Across the road, Urban Splash will turn the old tobacco factory office block into flats, shops and offices.
The Guardian says the most ambitious scheme will be the development of Hengrove Park to provide a hospital and leisure centre.
