Plans to replace a former Police HQ in Bristol with a 507-bed student accommodation tower have been recommended for approval.
Proposals by Watkin Jones to demolish the New Bridewell Police HQ between Nelson Street, Bridewell Street and Rupert Street, have moved a step closer.
Ahead of a Bristol city council committee meeting on 19 February, planners have recommended that a AWW-designed student housing block with 6,577 sq ft of commercial space also be approved.
The committee report said: “The proposal represents another step in the future regeneration of the whole Nelson Street area.”
Previously dubbed an eyesore, the existing buildings are vacant. Bristol Civic Society said the demolition would be an opportunity to mitigate “one of the city’s worst planning disasters”.
